Cannot burn cds in Linux

Excuse me, I meant GNU/Linux.

How about I call it not-working-correctly OS? (Can you tell I am not happy?)

Using cdrtools (pre-packaged or from source), I cannot burn a CD. I won't even bother trying to burn a DVD (both actions easily accomplished in MS Windows, using the exact same hardware). This is a known bug, and all the more egregious because CD-burning used to work in previous versions. According to Launchpad bug #48504, cd burning works in 2.4 kernels, and is broken in 2.6 kernels.

I am very unhappy to hear this.

A pile of 10 bright new coasters sits next to my keyboard, testament to the fallibility of open-source development.

Come on, folks - get it fixed.
