History in XML

The Historical Event Markup and Linking project provides a means of coordinating and navigating disparate historical materials on the internet.

Question is, can I use this to create a timeline of my own life? (Don't get me started on the DOD's TIA.) I want to mark down when I was sick, had surgery, leases, employment start and end dates, major and minor life events, and have them all organized by time, so I can see what happened when, without digging through notes, spreadsheets and (gasp!) my weblog.

And, of course, run it in Python...
