Techdirt screws up

In the article "Using GPS To Keep Track Of Street Signs", Techdirt's Mike claims

the folks in Santa Fe, New Mexico are attaching GPS receivers to every street sign.

If Mike had actually read all of two paragraphs into the USA Today article, he would have seen that GPS is used to merely track signs - by having someone drive around, note the sign's location and condition, and driving off. No equipment is attached to the sign.

Two paragraphs, Mike. Two paragraphs.

Mike updated his story, said the article was originally inaccurate. But then he asks why GPS is necessary.

I'll take a stab at it - because you don't have to worry about getting the exact street location. How many signs are not at the intersection of X & Y? What about one halfway down the block? Do you give the street address of the nearest house?

GPS automates the process. Remember automation? Computers?
