Bad quote from EPIC

In "Balancing Data Needs And Privacy" (courtesy Cryptogram for 2003-06-15), I saw this quote:

"You can't escape the fundamental contradiction of privacy research being conducted around a half-a-billion-dollar program of national surveillance," said Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, a Washington-based advocacy group. "It is like building environmentally friendly nuclear power plants."

So, Mr. Rotenberg, is it building more than one nuclear power plant that magically becomes envionmentally "unfriendly", or do you just have the blanket prejudice against nuclear power?

I'm rethinking my support of EPIC, if they have ignoramuses like this directing it..
