Dvorak's Singapore trip

John C. Dvorak's Singapore Tech.

For people who have not been to Singapore, I'd recommend a visit. It's an obviously great place for a family vacation if you like warm balmy weather, terrific hotels, great food, and lots of swimming pools. Because Singapore is a former British colony, almost everyone speaks some English and many people are fluent. Singapore has some beaches that, if developed, could become world class. It's also a shopper's heaven and one of the safest places in the world, since it's an extremely well-managed totalitarian state. As an American, I'm required to have mixed feelings about this. And I have to admit to being shocked by the number of expatriates living there who kept telling me what a great place it is and how it's "great for kids!"

He then puts the Singapore government down for its faults, and ends with a photo essay.

I've been there. Agree with the government, the weather, the safety, and the approbations for Funan Center and (unphotographed) Sim Lim Square.
