Cringely on offshoring

Cringely's "Body Count: Why Moving to India Won't Really Help IT" column gives some insight into why companies do offshoring (sending work, in IBM's case, to India), and some compelling reasons why it will backfire on them.

I like the article because it's not the usual pseudo-union "how dare you give my job to someone else" bunk (note to employees: if someone else pays for it, it's theirs to give away) that I regularly see from frightened tech employees. He talks about the real problem, how offshoring delays the problem's reckoning but does not solve it - and, of course, how to solve it.

Very good read.
