Baghdad arts

Dexter Filkins of the NY Times wrote A Baghdad Art Center Left in Ashes.

The subject of the article - oh heck, just read the damn thing, then tell me how this woman can say "I believed in your moral values" when she led a "comfortable way of life under Mr. Hussein" while living near the "headquarters of the Mukhabarat, the Iraqi secret police"?

Sucks to have your house half-blown up and your belongings smashed and open to looting.

Sucks to have your fingernails pulled out by your own government, too (Newsweek of March 31, 2003, Melinda Liu's "Live From Baghdad" article).

But at least you had your art to keep you from thinking about that...
